A Tragic Loss
At first, Dylan Thomas’s teammates thought their friend had suffered a leg injury. Leaving the game after an injury in the third quarter, Thomas told athletic trainers and the team doctor he could not feel his body.
He then fell unconscious. He was airlifted from WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was pronounced dead of an apparent Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) two days later.

Know the Warning Signs
The most common form of TBI for both children and young adults is a concussion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) define a concussion as “a type of traumatic brain injury from a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body.
” While some symptoms appear right away, others may take hours or days to become apparent. Common symptoms include dizziness, blurred vision, loss-of-balance, and problems with bright light or loud noise.
