Motorcycle accidents seriously and fatally injure far too many Oklahoma residents every year.

The statistics below are disturbing about motorcycle accidents in Oklahoma:

  • According to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, there were nearly 15,000 motorcycle crashes in Oklahoma in 2014, the most recent year for which data is available.
  • 1,184 riders were injured in motorcycle accidents in Oklahoma in 2014.
  • 55 Oklahoma riders were fatally injured in 2014.

Just this past week alone, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet was seriously injured on Highway 169 in Tulsa. Police reported that the rider was traveling at unsafe speeds when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a barrier wall late Saturday night.

The rider survived the crash but was admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries to his head, leg, arm, and more.

He was reportedly in critical condition after the accident.

Many motorcycle accidents are preventable and can be avoided when motorcyclists and other drivers follow the proper safety precautions.

However, even when riders take all the proper safety precautions on the road, accidents can still happen.

In Oklahoma, motorcyclists above the age of 17 are not required by state law to wear a helmet while riding. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced in their most recent traffic accident data, that there were 10 times more motorcycle accident fatalities in states without universal helmet laws, including Oklahoma than in states where all riders are required to wear a helmet. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) also estimates that wearing a helmet reduces a rider’s risk of death by as much as 37%.

Wearing a motorcycle helmet while riding has been proven to drastically reduce a rider’s risk of serious injury and death.

  • My orthopedic doctor recommended Graves McLain Injury Lawyers, PLLC, to me following the need for revision hip surgery due to a hip from Stryker that was putting poison into my system. The doctor took care of the hip, and Graves McLain Injury Lawyers, PLLC, took care of the legal case. They were very thorough, professional, courteous, and always ready to answer the questions I had throughout the length of the case. In a word, the entire office is fantastic. I’m sure they were tired of my inquiries on the case’s progress, but they did not show it. They were always willing to respond and were very positive. If I ever have a claim in the future, they will be the first group to whom I reach out.
