On Thursday, February 20th, Attorney Chad McLain of Graves McLain appeared on KTUL’s Good Day Tulsa program to discuss traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), along with their signs and symptoms. Watch the segment:

According to the Centers for Disease Control, a TBI is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head which causes normal brain functions to be disrupted. Everyone is potentially at risk, given that a TBI can be caused by many things, including sports injuries, falls, or car accidents.

A TBI can greatly affect one’s life.

In the short-term, a victim may demonstrate symptoms such as communication issues, memory problems, emotional changes, and trouble with balance. In the long-term, a TBI may require lifelong medical care.

Additionally, TBIs have the potential to cause brain issues later in life, including developing Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease.

After an accident, it can be common for symptoms of head injuries to be missed given that a medical professional may attend to more obvious injuries first.

However, it is always important to have any symptoms checked out, as mild symptoms have the potential to evolve into serious issues if left untreated.

Chad also discussed different types of brain injuries, including:

  • A concussion considered a mild TBI, which occurs when the brain hits the inside of the skull due to a change in movement. Symptoms include temporary loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, and nausea.
  • A contusion, a bruise on the brain, which is often caused by a blow to the head. Symptoms of a contusion include balance issues, speech difficulties, and cognitive changes.
  • A penetrative injury is when an object penetrates the skull. These can be fatal, and complications include blood loss, seizures, loss of consciousness, and even comas.

If you suspect you or a loved one has suffered a traumatic brain injury, your first step should be to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

  • My orthopedic doctor recommended Graves McLain Injury Lawyers, PLLC, to me following the need for revision hip surgery due to a hip from Stryker that was putting poison into my system. The doctor took care of the hip, and Graves McLain Injury Lawyers, PLLC, took care of the legal case. They were very thorough, professional, courteous, and always ready to answer the questions I had throughout the length of the case. In a word, the entire office is fantastic. I’m sure they were tired of my inquiries on the case’s progress, but they did not show it. They were always willing to respond and were very positive. If I ever have a claim in the future, they will be the first group to whom I reach out.
